We encourage you to consider your unique structures and develop policies and procedures that suit your organization based on guidelines and legal advice. An effective policy reflects an organization’s unique commitments, culture, resources and policy framework.
Here are some samples that we created based on some industries that can help you build your policies and provide some structure.

You can find other supporting resources and guidelines available online for employers, associations and organizations to create a domestic violence policy.

The Centre for Research & Education on Violence Against Women & Children (CREVAWC), Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) and Federally Regulated Employers – Transportation and Communications (FETCO) developed tools, policies, and online training programs to assist employers in supporting their staff impacted by domestic violence.

Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters has an initiative, Domestic Violence & Your Workplace, that provides businesses with training and tools to recognize the signs of violence and appropriately support female employees who are victims of violence. Additionally, they help with developing internal processes that protect both their workplace and employees.
